The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (HSO) Young Artists Auditions provide an opportunity to perform in a public forum and give recognition to dedicated young musicians for their talent and accomplishments. 

  • YAA winner WILL be asked to perform at the FREE Family Concert on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
  • Contestants may choose any competitive piece from their repertoire that is no longer than 10 minutes.
  • Top 3 Winners will receive a cash prize.

                   1st Place Winner – $800

                   2nd Place Winner – $300

                   3rd Place Winner – $200

  •  Music teachers of YAA contestants must contact the HSO Director of Education at sharon@hso.org to schedule a brief orientation via conference call, in person, via Zoom, or by phone (256) 539-4818 in order for their student’s submission to be considered.

Young Artists Audition Final Recital: Sunday, January 25, 2026, 2:00 p.m., Roberts Recital Hall, UAHuntsville

FREE Family Concert: Saturday, February 21, 2026, 11:00 a.m., Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, VBC

Congratulations to our 2025 YAA Winners!

 

The HSO Young Artists Auditions are a competitive public performance opportunity, presented annually to classical music students.

Entrants begin by submitting an application along with a preliminary audition recording, after which they may be invited to progress to the next round – participation in a public recital, with the performances scored and written remarks given by a distinguished adjudicator.

Following this recital, the top three finalists will receive cash prizes, and the first-place winner will be invited to perform at the HSO FREE Family Concert.
