This Fall with the HSO
It’s the start of a new HSO concert season, undoubtedly a busy and exciting time for the orchestra and the community! We are starting off the 2023-2024 season with a weekend full of exciting performances. The season opens with our first Classical Series concert on Friday evening, September 22. We invite you to enjoy a program of Russian music starring our accomplished Concertmaster, Josh Holritz, as soloist in the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Later in the weekend, on the evening of Sunday, September 24, the orchestra travels to Nichols Arbor in the Huntsville Botanical Garden. This performance will be an intimate Dinner Concert with music by Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann. Coupled with a delicious three-course meal prepared by Little Dipper Bakery and Cafe, this performance is one of a kind.
The HSO Pops Series begins on October 20, with delightfully quirky music from the cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Our friends from Jeans ‘n Classics will be performing, while accompanied by the HSO.
On November 3, the orchestra will be joined by the amazing Huntsville Community Chorus. Join us for a performance of Vaughan Williams’ inspiring setting of Walt Whitman, Toward the Unknown Region. This concert will feature several short compositions by conductor Gregory Vajda. In addition to Vaughan Williams’ timeless, much-loved Tallis Fantasia for string orchestra, this will be an incredible sonic experience!
While the orchestra itself gets a holiday break on New Year’s Eve, the music continues in style nonetheless! Jazz trumpeter and vocalist Byron Stripling, singer Sydney McSweeney, and their band will present an evening of jazz and gospel favorites. Without a doubt, The Gospel According to Gershwin is a fantastic way to celebrate the New Year with friends and family.
Education Opportunities
this Season
We’re pleased to resume our educational and outreach activities this fall as well! Music Explorers Club is such a fun and perfect way for young children to interact with the musicians of the orchestra. Our Symphony in the City pop-up performances around town are a fun way to encounter small ensembles from the HSO. We invite you to come out while our musicians play gorgeous music outside their natural habitat.
The 2023-2024 season is guaranteed to be a great one. We hope you’ll join us for exciting opportunities and performances! You can view the full season schedule and get ticketing information here.
