Third-grade Violin Program
This Symphony School outreach program allows third-grade (occasionally second or first) classes to participate in 10, 50-minute violin lessons. Symphony School teachers work with each third-grade classroom (about 18-22 students) within a school. By lesson four, students are playing on real violins during the class. By the end of this program, students have learned to handle a violin carefully, position the violin, bow and their body, and properly play.
Instructors, materials, and violins are all provided by the HSO.
Currently, Limestone County, Athens City, Scottsboro City, and Hartselle City school systems contract with the Symphony School to provide this program to students within the academic day. We also offer this program in a few private schools (by contract) and in most Huntsville City Schools. This program promotes learning with not only music but in the general classroom.
Class dates and times are scheduled with each system or school. Availability is limited.
