A man of many talents, Huntsville’s own Ron Roberts joins the musicians of the HSO in the performance of two fantastically fun works for narrator and chamber orchestra. The English composer William Walton’s Façade, a setting of poems by Edith Sitwell, is a brilliant piece of parlor entertainment by turns whimsical and absorbing. Then there is Austrian HK Gruber’s eccentric and exuberant Frankenstein!! — is it musical theater, is it cabaret, or is it opera? One can never be sure. Here the text is provided by poet H. C. Artmann, whose parodies of comic book and film characters blend childlike fantasy with the macabre.

Casual Classics concerts are “outside-of-the-box” classical performances involving smaller HSO ensembles and a shorter performance length. Often Casual Classics performances pair classical music with an activity or present it in a non-traditional (non-concert hall) setting. Performances are generally an hour in length and occur on Sunday afternoon, or in the case of the dinner concert, Sunday evening.
