  • No experience is required!
  • Learn the basics of violin, viola, cello or double bass playing in an enjoyable, no-pressure environment.
  • Participants must provide instruments.
  • This course is designed for adults (ages 18 – 180) that have either never had, or never utilized, the opportunity to learn to play a stringed instrument.  Adults with no previous musical experience are invited to learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Students are taught fundamental skills in playing their instrument, and also begin to develop skills in note reading and musicianship.

Intermediate String Class for Adults

Mondays, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Bethany Wing, instructor
Fee: $175

  • Pre-requisite is the HSO’s beginning adult class or approval of the instructor.
  • This course is a continuation of Beginning String Class for Adults.  Students continue to develop their skills in violin, viola, cello, or double bass.  Fundamentals of music and note reading continue to be emphasized.  This course is also the perfect “refresher” for individuals who perhaps played a stringed instrument in their childhood and are interested in “picking it up again.”

Advanced String Class for Adults

Mondays, 7:00-8:15 p.m.
Bethany Wing, instructor
Fee: $185

  • Pre-requisite is the intermediate adult class or approval of the instructor.
  • This course is designed for adults who have already taken the Beginning and Intermediate String Classes. This is a wonderful bridge between the adult classes and the Horizon Chamber Orchestra. Students will continue exploring the principles learned in the Intermediate Class, and will focus on developing the skills necessary to play in a string orchestra.

Horizon Chamber Orchestra for Adult Beginners

Tuesdays, 7:15 – 8:45 p.m.
Susan Mullen, instructor

  • Susan Mullen leads this group of very enthusiastic students. This course is designed for any adult string player who has completed at least one year of group or private lessons in violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Students study educational repertoire designed specifically for string orchestras that are continuing to develop fundamental skills in playing an instrument and note reading.  Etudes and technical studies are also utilized.  This class is also perfect for the individual who plays an instrument at an amateur level, and desires to participate in a performing ensemble.
