MahlerSymphony No. 2 “Resurrection”

Huntsville Community Chorus

The program-length Symphony No. 2 of Mahler, written for enormous orchestral forces, offstage musicians, solo singers, and chorus, is a thrilling concert experience. This pivotal work was the composer’s first foray into the subject of death and the afterlife, a topic which would preoccupy him throughout the rest of his career. Inspired by Klopstock’s line, “Yes, you shall rise again, my dust,” the “Resurrection” Symphony is a moving meditation on themes of life, love, loss, and renewal – an impossibly vivid depiction of the great composer’s inner world, and perhaps the most popular of his monumental symphonies.
