Weber Symphony No. 2 in C major
Schumann-Ravel Carnaval (excerpts)CoplandClarinet Concerto
Mozart called it the “agony stick,” and it was a favorite instrument of Brahms also. Soloist Scott Andrews will demonstrate the agility, versatility, and beauty of the clarinet in a performance of Aaron Copland’s groundbreaking, jazz-infused, distinctively American concerto. An early symphony by famed operatist Carl Maria von Weber opens this diverse and festive program. We’ll also hear pieces from Robert Schumann’s waltzy, whimsical Carnaval as orchestrated by French composer Maurice Ravel.
