Mayor Tommy Battle, Narrator

The HSO honors Armed Forces Veterans – and all those who serve –William Schuman’s American Festival Overture, Copland’s Lincoln Portrait narrated by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, and much more. Tonight’s patriotic program culminates in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s rousing The Year 1812. Originally offered in commemoration of Russia’s victory over Napoleon, since the 1970s the “1812 Overture” is often associated with American national celebrations thanks to the legacy of Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops.
