2024 Young Artists Auditions

HSO Young Artists Auditions

Congratulations to our 2024 YAA Winners!

First place winner: Davis Brewster (trombone)
Second place winner: Jeffrey Duan (piano)
Third place winner: Daniel Lewis (flute)

The HSO Young Artists Auditions are a competitive public performance opportunity, presented annually to classical music students.

Entrants begin by submitting an application along with a preliminary audition recording, after which they may be invited to progress to the next round – participation in a public recital, with the performances scored and written remarks given by a distinguished adjudicator.

Following this recital, the top three finalists will receive cash prizes, and the first-place winner will be invited to perform at the HSO FREE Family Concert.

The complete Rules & Guidelines for the Young Artists Auditions may be viewed below.

Young Artists Auditions Entry Procedures

  • The entrant’s music teacher must contact Sharon Hicks, HSO Director of Education, at sharon@hso.org to schedule a brief conference before submitting an application (this may be in person, via telephone, or via Zoom).
  • Entrants should prepare a representative solo work (e.g., a concerto movement) no greater than 10 minutes in length, including any cuts, and should arrange for their own accompanist as required.
  • The application and the preliminary recording are submitted via the Acceptd website; the entrant will first need to set up an Acceptd account in order to submit their application and recording if they do not already have one. There is a $35 application fee.
