2016 Final Results
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and the HSO Guild congratulate the winners of the 2016 Young Artists Auditions:
First Prize: Malkah Sheldon, cello (student of Ariana Arcu)
Second Prize: Katherine Reardon, double bass (student of Mark Huff)
Third Prize: Kevin Yang, piano (student of Frances Schwemmer)
We would also like to acknowledge semi-finalists Chris Bandy, Harley Carden, Riley Carey-Fox, Ashley Eng, and Alison Hu.
The HSO applauds these young musicians for their excellence, and we wish them continued success in their future musical endeavors!
For their students to be eligible, teachers must attend an orientation meeting. To accommodate teachers from out- of- town, an orientation will be conducted via conference call. Please call the HSO Director of Education at 256-539-4818 to schedule an appointment if you did not attend one of the scheduled meetings that were held in 2013 and 2014. Those who did attend a 2013 or 2014 session are not required to attend in 2015.
Teacher orientation is scheduled for October 8, 2015 at 5:30 pm or October 26, 2015 at 5:30 pm. The orientation will be held at the HSO business office. If you are unable to attend, please call the HSO Director of Education at 256-539-4818. The orientation will allow Music Teachers a chance to ask questions about the application and audition process.
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (HSO) Young Artists Auditions provides an opportunity to perform in a public forum and gives recognition to dedicated young musicians for their talent and accomplishments. In addition, an opportunity to perform as soloists with a professional symphony orchestra may be awarded.
All entrants must submit an audition recording as well as a completed online application via Acceptd. The applicant, parent/guardian, and music teacher must read, agree to, and abide by all rules and regulations in order to participate in this competition. Accepting YAA Applications September 1, 2015 through October 30, 2015. The application fee is $82 and the deadline is October 30, 2015.

The selections the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra will play for the Young People’s Concerts in 2016 have the instrumentation listed above. If a Young Artist is chosen as the winner of the Young Artists Auditions, only musical works fitting within this instrumentation have the possibility of being played with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Young Artists performing musical works that do not fit within this instrumentation can be adjudicated as the winner of the Young Artists Auditions but will not be considered for performance with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra.
