Carlos Miguel Prieto receives GRAMMY Nomination
Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto's recently released Naxos recording of works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold has received a GRAMMY Award nomination in the category for “Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra.” Reflecting the high level of achievement, Mr. Prieto joins other nominated conductors that include Pierre Boulez, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Esa-Pekka Salonen. This is Mr. Prieto’s first nomination.Featuring violinist Philippe Quint and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería, this critically acclaimed recording was honored by Naxos as "Album of the Month" in June 2009, and also includes Korngold's Schauspiel Overture and Suite from Much Ado About Nothing. Produced by David Frost, the recording also received a nomination in the "Producer of the Year" category in the field of Classical Music. Violinist Philippe Quint performed the Korngold Violin Concerto with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and Carlos Miguel Prieto in January of 2004. Mr. Quint captivates audience worldwide with his charismatic presence. Beyond his recognized star power, Mr. Quint is often lauded for a “searingly poetic lyricism” (Daily Telegraph, UK) in repertoire that ranges from Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms to the leading composers of our time. Mr. Quint left the former Soviet Union in 1991 and is now an American citizen who is strongly committed to the music of his new country, frequently performing works by William Schuman, Lukas Foss, Leonard Bernstein, Ned Rorem, John Corigliano as well as Erich Wolfgang Korngold. His impressive discography on the Naxos label includes William Schuman’s Violin Concerto, Bernstein’s Serenade, Ned Rorem’s Violin Concerto and many others.
